Garden tractor or ride-on mower: what's the difference?

Garden tractor and ride-on mower are often used interchangeably, but they differ technically in one important way: the ability to use additional attachments.

Garden tractor: more than just mowing

A garden tractor like the GT 92 or the GT 102 Comfort has a PTO or equivalent connections for attachments like a trailer, snow blade or scarifier. That makes it a versatile tool for year-round use, not just lawn care.

Ride-on mower: specialised for mowing

A ride-on mower like the AM 4in1 Rider, on the other hand, is designed specifically for lawn care – often with more mowing functions like mulching, collecting and side discharge built in. For pure lawn care without other attachments, it's often the more compact and manoeuvrable choice.

Manoeuvrability compared

Ride-on mowers are generally built more compactly and can therefore manoeuvre more tightly around trees, beds and other obstacles. A garden tractor, on the other hand, scores on larger, more open areas and regular use of additional attachments.

Conclusion

If you just want to mow, a specialised ride-on mower is usually the better fit. If you want to maintain your plot year-round and make use of attachments like a trailer or snow blade, you'll benefit from a garden tractor's versatility.
